Staddle Stones

Staddle stones have been used as Garden Antiques since the 1920's, often they are referred to as - staddles, rick stones toadstools or mushrooms. Over 200 years ago Staddlestones would have been hand made from the local stone, quite simply to support agricultural buildings such as granaries, raising them some two feet or so off the ground in an attempt to prevent vermin and water from reaching the stores. Each area of the UK has its own unique seam of stone; this is the reason that we have varying colours of Staddlestones. Often is the case that we find a staddlestones 'away from its natural home' it is UKAA's mission to return the Staddle back to its origin. Each Staddle stone that we have will have been hand carved by the local stone mason or it was a job that was given to the farm labourer.
